0620.3The latest addition to our family!

Evil Puppy?...No way! Posted by Hello
I decided to post Pics of my new puppy as my daughter always wanting to go see the kitties at darkangel's, one of my new and good blogger friends (fast becomming the blinkie queen).

This is our newest baby. We've had him one month and he is a dream puppy. Not like the nightmare eyes show. His name is Mee-Kow, which is translated as Polar Bear. My daughter named him as she has a huge stuffed polar bear and they are nearly identical. He is a Maremma Sheepdog with a breed heritage that goes back over 1000 years. I was looking for a puppy for a couple of month, and I saw this one listed in the paper. I had not heard of a "maremma" so I looked it up. Unbelievable dog. He has a reputation as a "ferocious wolf killer" yet loving and gentle with children. This is important as this neighborhood loses animals to Coyotes. You can read more about them here if you want.

So the first couple of days, I am wary as I watch the twins tackle him, pull ears, take food from his mouth and every other nightmare situation. I'm telling you, this is "super puppy" as he just sits and takes all they give. He is very rough with me so, he know the difference. This puppy get's hit with blocks toy shovels, you name it. He is 4 months now and will grow to 100 lbs average. He can already hand-shake, speak and sit...mr too smart.

I am continually amazed by him. Yesterday we went to a horse park in the country and a full grown, large dog, came to to investigate us. The puppy went to the end of his rope (5 m) and sat staring at the dog. No bark, no growl, no emotion just sat between my family and the dog. My wife called the dog and I tried to push the pup in her direction and he spun around back to his guard position. After about 5 minutes, the dog unsettled by the stare, left. When the dog was out of site (1 km), the puppy returned to his play as if nothing happened. Amazing
